A Golden Dome While the Earth Burns - Paul Jay

This episode examines how Trump’s futuristic promises – impenetrable missile shields, Mars colonization, weaponized AI – mask an old playbook: funneling public wealth into private hands through military contracts. While selling fantasies of space salvation, the same system commits atrocities in Gaza, while the earth burns.

Hi, I’m Paul Jay and this is theAnalysis.news. This podcast is titled:

The Golden Dome and the Nightmares of the Past

In the Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte, Marx wrote that “Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past. The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living.”

The lies of the Cold War still haunt us. Trump echoes the same fear-mongering about socialism and “the far left.” Just as a manufactured Soviet military threat once justified a massive nuclear-military-industrial complex, Trump and the neocons in both parties now exaggerate the Chinese threat. CIA assessments over decades show the pattern: threats consistently inflated, providing the pretext for channeling public wealth into private hands.

Marx also wrote that precisely at moments of crisis, when new possibilities appear, elites “anxiously conjure up the spirits of the past to their service.”

Trump conjures those spirits today. He blames immigrants and socialists for crime and collapsing cities.

Donald Trump
The Democratic party has been completely taken over by socialists, Marxists, and far-left extremists.

He appeals to whiteness and religious obedience. He plays the new Caesar, backed by a section of billionaires who want weaker government, lower taxes, deregulation of AI and fossil fuels, and deeper militarization of the economy.

His Mussolini playbook is dressed in dazzling technology — an “impenetrable” Golden Dome missile shield, colonization of Mars, the weaponization of AI and space. These are presented as scientific leaps on par with the atomic bomb. Yet stripped of the futuristic mask, they are a regression — a bid to return America to pre-New Deal rule by a brutal plutocracy.

The Golden Dome is advertised as absolute defense, a shield that would make nuclear war obsolete. The truth: such a system is impossible. No dome can stop hundreds of missiles and decoys. As Daniel Ellsberg warned, so-called missile defense:

Daniel Ellsberg
It is a con. It’s snake oil, but a very profitable one.

Sold to the public while the contracts roll in. The goal is not protection but endless procurement — permanent rivers of taxpayer money into corporate coffers. It’s not about the dome. It’s about the gold.

The Mars frontier plays the same role. Echoing Elon Musk, Trump sells colonization of Mars as America’s next heroic mission. But this is not science; it is the frontier myth recycled — and, like the Golden Dome, another boondoggle. Tens of billions are poured into rockets, space infrastructure, and private contracts with no realistic chance of producing salvation for humanity. Mars is cast as the new wilderness while the Earth burns. Heat waves, wildfires, floods, and mass extinctions are here now. Space rhetoric works as both a contract machine for corporations and an escape valve for politics: if Earth collapses, salvation lies elsewhere. The plutocracy that poisoned Earth now promises to escape it, leaving the rest behind.

And while Trump sells fantasies of missile shields and colonies on Mars, the system he represents is already committing atrocities on Earth. Gaza is the clearest expression of U.S. militarism today. For decades Washington has bankrolled and armed an Israeli apartheid state — shielding it diplomatically and supplying the bombs, jets, and cash that have entrenched mass displacement and blockade as permanent features of Palestinian life.

Out of those conditions came the terrorist Hamas attack against Israeli civilians — an atrocity carried out in a context shaped by decades of apartheid and blockade. The response, with American weapons and political cover, has been collective punishment on a genocidal scale: mass killing and the systematic destruction of Gaza.

This is not about defense. It is about sustaining war and enriching the arms industry. Biden armed it. Trump defends it. Both justify it with the same “security” rhetoric that disguises crimes as protection. Gaza shows what U.S. militarism means in practice: atrocity normalized, profit institutionalized, impunity guaranteed.

That is, unless we organize, resist, and insist on candidates at every level that will fight against this growing fascism.
